Hi all,

I understand this topic may have been discussed before but I have done a search and come up with nothing to help my situation.

The setup I have is the ADSL line running into a Siemens Giga 4port ethernet router supplied by telkom. This router is in my fathers office which is in a separate building from the house. The wireless signal was too weak so I have a cable running from an ethernet port on the siemens into the house connecting to a Linksys WRT54GL router. Previously I had the cable plugged into the internet port of the Linksys router and after some reading I realised this was wrong so I now have it plugged into one of the free ethernet ports.

Firtsly what setup should I have the Linksys router on?Static IP,automatic configuration-DHCP, or PPPOE??
My understanding is that the Siemens router should be setup normally(PPPOE) with all the account info and that the Linksys should be setup with a static IP. At least this is what I gather from browsing the net....

Secondly I have 2 accounts that I interchange between. Right now the Linksys router is running on automatic configuration - DHCP and everything works except I cant login to the router GUI while it is connected to the Siemens router. Also it seems as though whenever I change accounts it never works as I have noticed all the data transfer occuring on the account I changed over from which I find seriously odd?!

Any help greatly appreciated:)

Confusing

Here is my .02c -- which might not be worth much :D

I always thought that the ADSL connection from the wall socket was an RJ11 to an RJ 11 port on the router

I think that what you really need is a SWITCH -- not another router -- although you can use just the switch side of it (unmanaged )

Private or public IP using NAT or not

The Linksys if I understand correctly has no direct connection to the Telkom ADSL but is connected to an standard RJ45 ( Ethernet ) port on the other router -- so why worry about PPoE

WHAT exactly are you trying to do

From WHAT are you trying to connect -- a PC on the network ? What is the Siemens IP , what is the Linksys IP ????

Also it seems as though whenever I change accounts it never works as I have noticed all the data transfer occuring on the account I changed over from which I find seriously odd?!

Running TWO different ISP accounts is a different matter all together.
This has been covered here in some depth -- do a search.

Two routers are fine.

Both can be setup with PPPoe. Set static IP addresses for both routers.
Router 1 = 192.168.0.1
Router 2 = 192.168.0.2

Set the router with the adsl connection as your dhcp server. Set the dhcp from 192.168.0.3 - 192.168.0.100

Disable dhcp server on the other router.

Hi,
The easiest way is to choose routers that support WDS-based bridging and repeating such as Apple's Airport Extreme and any of Buffalo Technology's 802.11g routers.
