Can someone please tell me how to connect 3 dstv decoders for extraview?I know how to connect 2 decoders but not 3?

You'll need a smart LNB or Multiswitch

Unicable goes from LNB/switch into the Unicable In port on the Explora
Analog cable from LNB/switch into each decoder.
One heartbeat cable from one RF port on the Explora to RF port on one of the other decoders
Another hearbeat cable from RF port on the Explora to the other decoder.

Bob's your uncle.

One thing which I'm experimenting with at the moment is the need for a heartbeat cable. For some reason my two secondary decoders work for a few days without the heartbeat and then suddenly nags about it. My record thusfar is 13 days.

Will this work?
Split everything that goes to the secondary. Ie the line from the dish and the heartbeat from the primary, put it through splitters and send it to 2 secondary decoders.
I just do not want to go through everything, just to see it not working.
I do know that all the secondaries will play the same channel or am I wrong?

What about heartbeat over unicable?

No, I doubt that would work. There are voltages involved and you'll damage the LNB (that's my very uneducated view). Don't use splitters for anything, unless ou want to connect one decoder to two TV's.

Also, you will have three completely independent environments, my wife watches her stuff in the bedoom, kids whatch cartoons in another room and I watch my stuff in the lounge.

I haven't tried that yet. Do you mean from Explora to LNB? If so, how will you get the signal back down to the other decoder? You might as well then run the cable directly between the decoders

Unicable to Explora
Unicable to other decoders
Heartbeat runs over unicable through the smart lnb.

There was a thread about it here somewhere.

Ah, OK. Well my cables are in place already. No way am I laying cables in the ceiling again. When I did that a few months ago I asked a guy I know to help and he made a moerse hole in my ceiling, almost falling straight through :p

yeah... plus the method seems to have some risks according to the dstv thread I posted.

Old thread I know, but did you need to run the heartbeat cable from the primary explora or from the secondary to the tertiary decoder?

exstraview connection problems

Hi

Kindly assist, I am pretty desperate by now. I need 3 viewing environments. My hardware are as follows:

Smart LNB with 4 ports
2 new explora's
1 new HD decoder (small black one with smart card integrated)

My one explora would be my primary, 2nd explora and HD decoder as exstraview. Already activated at MC side.

How does the cables work?Do I connect my primary explora to the legacy port on the LNB? Do I then connect the secondary explora to port A for instance? How about the HD decoder as it only has one incoming port and no RF ports? Also , I heard with the new smart LNB no HB cable is neccesary?

Any help will be appreciated.

firstly you won't be able to do this by yourself have to get an installer I'll give a quick explanation from lnb outputs 2unicables should go to the 2exploras 1universal to the single view no heartbeat cables needed.

some things takes years to learn.you wouldn't want to try something and would take you a month to complete when it would take 2 hrs for the next person.

you never know until you try = swapping an LNB first time took me like 10 minutes s, slowly the first time to make sure the alignment was right.
wasn't rocket science = didn't need to buy any special tools
best case it works didn't cost me anything , worst case i have to call an installer which would not cost me more then if i called him in the first place.
think i've done it 10 or more times by now takes seconds.
