As I have been using the USB modem for some time and recently purchased a desktop modem I am uncertain as to the steps to follow.
I have purchased the following router: http://www.linksysbycisco.com/EU/en/products/E1000
Question is do I simply connect the WAN port on the modem to the internet port on the router and then set up the connection details on the router itself, or does the modem still need to be connected to the PC via USB cable to dial up?

LAN port on desktop modem to WAN port on Router
Set up connection details on router ( username, password, connection type pppoe ) done

yep exactly conect the the modem to the router via the ethernet port (i am asuming u are using the big modem) and duse the router to dial up,
then conect the pc to the router either via wifi of ethernet, the modem no longer has to conect to the pc

What an awesome little router, plugged everything in, ran the installer, it even picked up that I have a pppoe modem attached and just asked for credentials.
Literally 10 mins after taking the router out of the box the wireless network was set up, xbox wii notebook phones all connected and 0 issues.
Would highly recommend the E1000 and for R 450 it's a bargain, security looks to be pretty good as well.
