Connecting normal speakers to TV

*noob question*
I have 2.1 creative speakers which i want to connect to my soon to be new tv (Samsung PS42C430/1 42" Plasma TV, thanks to plasmafanbois for convincing me through all the LCD vs Plasma threads).
My question is, will i be able to directly connect the speakers to the TV via 3.5 jack? Or do i need some special cables and/or sound amp. to have this setup?
 
i think the PS42C430/1 42 has a 3.5 jack audio output... so you will be able to...
 
Dont under estimate the plasma's built in speakers. They're not bad at all.

Agreed. Was quite surprised by the quality, although I don't use them. The Creatives will probably be a bit more powerful after adding in the sub.

@PostmanPot, can i use both the creatives, and the built in speakers? or the built in will go off when i plug in the creatives?

Hehe. Well if I remember correctly, on PCs, if wanting to use 2 x 2.1 sets, you'd need a 5.1 sound card, and I think each set goes in the front/back audio ports/there is some redirection involved. I don't think you're going to have any luck considering your set only has 1 audio out which is probably intended for 2.1 only.

Thanks for the compliment. Makes it all the more worthwhile! :) I can tell you are happy with your choice. What are you using your plasma TV for?

On a side note, if you're looking for an amazing value component surround sound system, look at the Sony STR500 for R3999 on special sometimes.

I won a Logitech computer speaker setup thing.
It only has a 3.5mm jack and power supply.
i plugged in the jack, changed a few settings under the Headset option on the TV and voila, awesome sound!!
 
I don't have the plasma yet, only getting it after payday :D
But from the good reviews i read here, i'm sure i will not be disappointed.
I will use it for normal SD tv, movies and series (mostly SD too, maybe HD every once in a while), and sport on telly too.

That sony looks very decent, will keep an eye on the speacials in the next few months, unfortunately only have about R6k budget for the TV now.

Plasma suits your tasks very well - no worries. :D

Yep, you can't get better value for money. Man the system pumps. Granted it's my first surround sound, but compared to the crappy "DVD surround sound" sub-R2000 packages, this set is king.
