You could just bridge the 2 separate connector posts on the back of the cabinet, and then run a single cable to the amp - that will have the same effect as joining two separate cables and then connecting that to the amp - but I really wouldn't recommend that. There are two sets of connectors on the back of the speaker cabinets for a reason.

Yes the reason is bi-wire amps.

Out of the box no-wire speakers are always bridged with a plate or other mechanism.

Nothing wrong with doing it manually.

Get higher gauge speaker wire?

Erm they are too big already...

If anything thinner gauge is what he wants then.

But a bridge makes much more sense than two sets of speaker wires for an amp that doesn't support it.

Higher AWG = thinner, c'mon man. You should know this.

Connect the two reds on the speaker together with a short cable
Connect the two blacks on the speaker together with a short cable

Connect red LEFT (speaker A) on the amp to the red on the left speaker
Connect black LEFT (speaker A) to the black on the left speaker

Connect red RIGHT (speaker A) on the amp to the red on the right speaker
Connect black RIGHT (speaker A) to the black on the right speaker

On the amp, select Speaker A

Switch on the amp, but turn the volume to minimum
Select an input, either CD player or FM tuner
Gradually increase the volume to 9 o'clock. Check for sound out of both speakers
If ok, increase to a realistic listening level

Just make sure, if you are using bare wire in the connectors, that a whisker of wire is not touching anything. Twist the cable as tightly as you can

You should be able to polarise the cable by looking at printing on one conductor, or a stripe, or a different shape insulation

You could do the connection with decent grade speaker wire, but bridging plates look neater. If you are using a decent speaker cable the 2 together would not fit into the spring clip.

Speak to the dealer that you got the speakers from, as they should have come with a set.

That makes sense.

Two questions - where would I find bridging plates,

and what would happen if if just somehow put the twisted pair into the spring clip on the back of the amp ?

ps: the bridging plate looks like it just connects the two positives together and same for the negatives - could I not just join them with speaker wire ?

I bought them ten years ago - company doesn't exist anymore.

Yup, the cable I'm using is very thick so the two together don't fit the spring clip so I'm going to go with the suggestion of bridging the connectors on the speaker with the same cable.

That would be the best solution at this time.

Get hold of some of the other Audio shops around the Cape, or look online and phone around in JHB/Durban in the new year. Someone might have some around that will fit.
