Hi,

I am downloading some things at home and want to check on the status from work.

How can I do this? Must I download VNC on the home PC? (I however don't know how to connect to another PC with VNC)

Any suggestions/help would be appreciated.

You need to do the following

1. Enable port forwarding on your router
2. Setup port 3389 on external interface to forwad to port 3389 on your PC ip address.
3. Setup DYNDNS on your router or PC
4. Enable remote desktop connections on your PC
5. Make sure you have a password set for your PC user account

Yes as well as what JUGGY said you'll need to download and install a vnc server at home. I use ultra-vnc but there are several.

iirc There was a discussion about VNC not long ago - have a look for that.

I use ultra-vnc as well, what Juggy said is good if you have XP pro at home... it will also create a new session at home AFAIK or log off afterwards, so may not work for what you want... UltraVNC is great - by default you need to forward port 5800 and 5900 for it to work. And if you set up the java viewer, you can access it using regular internet explorer!

If you've enabled remote desktop connections you don't need VNC. It would be more secure to use tight VNC.

Yeah, goto www.dyndns.org and install the free software app. Register a name and then you can connect to you machine using that. You will need to setup your windows firewall to allow incoming connections on the VNC ports.

Yes, I use the paid version for the office, it is very nice.... I would consider this route... seriously.

you could also try logmein. It's web based, and free if all you want to do is access your pc remotely.

Yes... i was just going to post this... is the best and easiest suggestion! Their software is perfect!

The only limitation on the free edition is that you cannot do PC to PC file transfer... but there is a way around that... just load Pando or some other file transfer software on both computers!
