Connecting to POP mail on another ISP

One of my customers recently got iBurst, and she wants to carry on getting her MWeb email when connected to iBurst. I set up Outlook Express for her to send via the WBS SMTP server, but when downloading from MWeb's POP server, it connects, and sits there forever, never downloading any messages.

Any ideas? Anything I should know about?
 
I use quite a few 'other' pop accounts, including MWEB. I think in total about 5, and they all work fine. Care to post your settings here?
 
Another way of doing it is to put a permanent forwarding on the MWEB account to the provided @wbs.co.za account . Then then change settings to POP from the WBS account. This ensures the fastest (percieved) POP dl speeds.
 
Two things....

Check the MTU on the iBurst is set to 1352.

OR

Mweb only allows IP's on their Dialup, ADSL etc range to connect to their mail servers.
Had a client with Sentech that had a similiar problem.

Definitely not that. I retrieve my MWEB mail via iBurst

how bout you just try and authenticate with your POP details if you want... that worked for my transition customers...but it not gonna make sense long term..the reason WBS provide the SMTP is to curb spam....yes....but another good thing about it is that your traffic yon't travel a helse distance to a SMTP server outside the iBurst cloud to send mail.......let the WBS SMTP worry bout that......

I'll have to check the settings. How does one set the MTU? That's a possibility.

I do know that their connection (in Bryanston) is really flaky - signal fluctuates from 1 to 4 bars all the time. Web browsing seems OK, though slow.

You can google Dr.TCP if you want but I really hat ethat app.....
