Connecting to wireless on Vista

I'm having a problem connecting to my wireless at home when I'm using my laptop running Vista. It has a limited connectivity status. But when I try and connect using a laptop running XP it works fine. I have an ADSL 5102G wireless router from Telkom.

Anyone else have the same problem?
 
Hotwheels, you can give your computer a static IP address that is within the IP range of the router.
 
What I did is the following:

1. On the router, I set up the wireless SSID (?name) of network and I left it hidden (security.
2. On the protocols/security bit, I left it on WAP and chose my own security key
3. Saved changes and reboot access point
4. On my machine (lappy with V64 SP1), I searched for wireless lan's
5. Selected the "unnamed one"
6. Entered name and security key I put into router.
7. connected and set as my default.
8. Been working ever since.
 
I have a similar problem. My wireless does work, but I have to manually disconnect from my network and then manually reconnect. For some reason it won't auto connect successfully.

Do you have network finding/scanning on (networks and sharing/turn on finding)? If this is on, it normally autoscans and when it finds it's network it's supposed to autoconnect to, it just connects.
 
similar problem on friends laptop with vista. finds network but limited connectivity. have entered wep/wap key? but still no luck. can connect wirelessly with xp or my n95 no problem. gave up and used cable.

Have you set the category of network (home, office, public)? That will affect your connectivity to those network types
 
I have the same problem, just got used to manually connecting to the network. I'm just waiting to run Windows 7 on all my pc's lol!
 
I've seen that before. Turns out that the router needed a firmware update; there was some slight change in the way Vista handles wireless protocols.
