Connecting TV to internet

Hi folks

Question from an old fart here.

So I just had fibre installed, and am busy getting everything set up. For my TV, should I use cable direct from the CPE or should I do such from the Router instead? (I hear it's best to be cabled than use a WiFi link). Would also appreciate the "Why?" part in your answer if you care to respond.

TIA

My advice is rather get a media player of some sorts. Smart tvs are notorious for spying on you, insecure out of date software, etc.

And for streaming purposes, wired is always better.

Okay thanks - will look at media players next, but do I connect the cable straight from the CPE or from the router?

Wi-Fi from the router is good enough. Cables maybe faster but in the event of lightning, it's one less cable to remember to unplug.

LOL. Spy vs Spy...

WiFi is good enough.

The only thing you should be plugging into that CPE is the WAN port of your router, unless the CPE you are revering to is a router supplied by the ISP...

For my setup - I have WiFi from the router - and only the router is plugged into the CPE. Everything else is on Wifi or a cable.

I run a Plex server for the home - so my Server is plugged into the router with LAN (more reliable) and the TV is on WiFi (works most of the time) - but this is with a crappy TPLink router supplied by the ISP

Thanks all. Appreciate the feedback.
Okay, I'll try WiFi for the TV initially and see how it goes. If I have issues, I'll cable from the router and see if it improves.
Will look into media players this weekend.
