Hi all,

I bought a new TV yesterday ( Samsung 43E450 Plasma )

I have got a Sony DAV-HDX265 DVD player with surround sound speakers... so its an amplifier and dvd player in one.
I also have a DSTV ( non - PVR ) decoder.

How do i connect both the decoder and the dvd plaer to my TV and have the sound work through the surround sound on both dvd and dstv ?

Here is a pic of the back of my TV:

Any help would be highly appreciated

thank you

Buy an HDMI cable and a DVI cable

HDMI/DVI from your Sony to your TV and connect your DSTV with your trashcan (or sell it)... no joking, connect it to your Sony

I've subscribed to this thread, as I have a similar problem connecting a Sony DAV player to my Decoder & Sony TV. What is frustrating for me is that I had it working perfectly ... before I retired from Jhb > WC ... so far I've blamed my forgetting how I previously hooked it all up on old-age!

Ok dont listen to the dvi guy

Your tv only has one hdmi input? Bummer.

Ok dvd player to tv via hdmi. If its a bluray player via hdmi is the only way ideally. So that will take care of that

For dstv best would be one rca to rca yellow straight to the tv. And for the sound a stereo red and white to the input of the dvd player unit. I see a stereo in. Then switch ure sound system to prologic 2 and will convert the stereo into a somewhat surround.

If you want more fancy. U would need a decent sony or entry level amp with speakers. These have weird connectors. Look for something with a few hdmis as that will make ure life easier as dstv hd can only work thru hdmi.

It looks like you only have RCA inputs on the DVD/amp, so that's your only option for getting sound for the DSTV.

If the PVR doesn't have RCA out there should be a headphone jack on the TV somewhere that you can use, just get a 3.5mm Stereo to RCA cable.

Edit: I assume the TV has at least one more HDMI port

1) Connect the tv to dvd player via HDMI cable
2) Connect the tv to DSTV via the RCA cables ( Red & White is sound, Yellow is Video)
3(a) Not sure if it works with your tv, but on some modern tvs you can set the sound output through the TV via the HDMI to your dvd/sound system i.e. sound from dstv to tv to surround sound.
3(b) Ugly but works - get a cable (1 phono jack to 2 RCA) phono jack is end that looks like a mp3 earphones jack. Connect this jack to your mic port on the dvd player and the rca cables to the DSTV. Thus, the DSTV would connect via the yellow RCA to the TV and the RED & WHITE RCA to the MIC input on your DVD player.
