Hello all,

Is it possible to connect a Huawei K3520 to a wireless router that has a USB port?

My router is a Asus WL-500G Premium

Thanks

There are models from Billion and Draytek that provide support for USB 3G modems. If I recall there was a thread about flashing the Asus router with OpenWRT, but at the time people were unable to make it work.

My advice is if you are not the sort of guy/gal who likes flashing things with homebrew firmware, then buy something that is supported or even better look at something like the B970 router that has it all built in.

Thanks, that's pretty much what I expected. Hopefulyl someone here has done it before, if not then I'm not sharp enough to go about doing it with my own homebrew kit I'm afraid.

thanks for the help.

I have used a great USB enabled router call a Dovado.
In fact I have a new one spare if you are interested.
They retail for about R1800 but I can let you have it for much less.
Look up the specs at: www.dovado.com
and your modem compatability at: www.dovado.com/modems. The K 3520 is supported.
Their support is really great and they are constantly providing upgrades.

Thanks Basil, but that's alot more then i'm willing to pay, I'm looking for a solution that's a few hundred bucks at most. It's no schlep at all to move the USB adapter upstairs or down depending which PC I want to use, also, I could easily set up internet sharing accross both so if aeither PC has it connected the other could use it.

When you are next due for upgrade (assuming you are on contract) look at the B970, should be free on a top up 400. I have one and it's a really good router.

No problem.

The B970 router is great and is free on a Top Up 315 contract as well.
The product is great but the Davado has many more features, but it does not come free.
Good luck with finding a solution that suites your needs.

The Billion 3G USB routers are not compatible with the Hauwei K3520 USB, please follow this link to check the compatible 3G USB modems and 3G Data cards http://www.billion.com/compatible-3G.html

Thanks for that update Billion.aire. If the situation changes please let me know and I'll look at getting one.

Either that or I could swap out the K3520 for a E220 with someone?

I have tried to get my router to use the modem with a version of openWRT but thus far I am unsucessful. I will however keep on trying!
