hey mtnBB, i am just woundering if there is a way to force a phone to use EDGE, i'm trying to connect using my nokia 6230 via bluetooth to my laptop. My cell info IS showing Y'ello Broadband, i'm currently trying this in kyalami with about 90% signal and my connection doesnt seem to be made at EDGE speeds.

I'm using *99# as the dialup no, with the username & password both blank...Are these settings correct or have they changed recently???
Any help provided is much appreciated
Thanks

you cant force EDGE dude - you either get it or you dont. U are connecting correctly - but it may be worthwhile checking out the post I just made in MTN EDGE slow.

If your EDGE tower is the strongest signal of all the towers, you will get EDGE. Otherwise, if you don't mind sacrificing mobility and the extra cost, a directional antenna pointed at the EDGE tower could help.

If you are using a Nokia Series 60 phone you could use the NetMonitor tool to force the use of a specific tower, if you knew which one had EDGE support.
