Hi, Just got ADSL (192K) with Cybersmart and using a Billion router (not wireless). Running Zone Alarm free edition with Windows (XP sp2) firewall turned off.

Start up computer, all working well. After some time, email, browsing, AVG Update connectivity dies. Can still connect to Skype and LimeWire. Shut down ZoneAlarm, and all is well. Start up Zone Alarm and same problem.

When I reboot the machine (not the router / modem), all is back to normal with Zone Alarm running. Those programmes have internet access granted.

Do I have to add the router / gateway address to the trusted zone? Why does it work on reboot (for a while) and then just die. Doesn't help if I power off and on the router. Its definitely a zone alarm thing.

Thanks

Suggestion?

Thanks... thought of that already, but its the only one that I have experience of, so anything else you suggest that does the same (better) job....

Also, do I really need one if the Router has one?

You dont really need it no, if your routers firewall is enabled.. i suggest using netlimiter, its stable, decent firewall for basic usage, and the option to limit and monitor your bandwidth..

ZoneAlarm is terrible. messed up my PC for a year and i only realised when i deleted it.
