Hi,

I have an N73 (not sure what firmware - how do I check?) from Vodacom with vodaphone branding. I'm not sure if the branding is the culprit tho. I use my phone as a modem connected via bluetooth to my laptop. The problem is, every time it detects a 3G signal and it was on GPRS / EDGE, it drops the modem connection.

Is there a setting on the phone that I could change or do I need to do a firmware upgrade. If so, how do I do that?

Hi there, I def wouldn't put it past the branding...
Does the connection drop in reverse as well, from 3G to GRPS / EDGE or does it only happen when upstepping (from GPRS / EDGE to 3G)?

I think it is under Phone, connection manager but I am not too sure.
It should be in the manual.
If you manage to find it, can you please post a screenshot of the options you have available, like Dual or GSM or 3G (UMTS) etc.???

I think there is an automatic update feature built in for updating the firmware, but this should also be in the manual or go to Nokia's website.

Its not the branding my 6680 and data cards drop the connection if its switching between gprs and 3G/hsdpa all the time as soon as I set them to 3G only there are no drops

If you have a strong 3G signal it wont drop just for the fun of it.
If you using it between 8pm and 12pm, you wont have 3G signal for longer than a minute, IMO.
SO edge and gprs would def be the better option, I can get up to 180+kb/s on edge during peak data times, thats not to bad.

Ok, so the N73 handset Gendibal have here is Vodacom Vodaphone branded.
Who are you guys with @ jalize and JK8?

Just getting some information together...

edit: Ok, JK8 has confirmed he is also using a Vodacom Vodafone branded N73.

edit2: and jalize uses MTN with a non-branded N73.

The plot thickens....
