Connection Drops

Hi, I need some input and some legs to stand on.

Firstly I live in PE, since approx 23rd Aug or roughly around there, when we had hellish winds and rain, my adsl experience degraded alot.

It started off by making mirc just disconnect, msn, and any internet connection, but i was still on the net and can reconnect straight away.

After a few days i decided to phone telkom... yesterday. First I spoke to a guy that told me, im abusing my line by chatting and that there is nothing wrong with my line, oh yes, and since it was the 1st yesterday... he said everyone is online and maxing the bandwidth. (note had this trouble since end of last month)

I then put the phone down, called again, spoke to a lady... very helpful and also stated she did not have the correct equiptment to test the line but she see's there is noise that she can hear on our line... wierd. anyway.. she then got a telkom tech. to come out today...

Ok so he came, poped out his laptop with his usb modem, connected and said that there are no error's on my line, although the router stated 7 CRC errors, which according to the tech. is normal.

Note my pings to www.saix.net was 31ms before and now are abt 70ms

Then he tryed to sell me a unshaped account, saying that it would make everything fast, which i dout is the case.

Did anyone know that irc = voice over ip? (tech. said so) yeah shocking huh ye right

ok now im back where i started,... i need help, and all the telkom people are too stupid to fix the problem... anyone got a suggestion?

As i said, all connections just drop, like after 2-5 mins(msn,mirc,skype,silversands casino,dc++ and anyother internet related app)

Also.... we'd had trouble with the box on our pole outside before, but... *sigh*

I am also getting more disconnections/resets than ever before. My only explanation is that they are working on something somewhere. Perhaps putting in hardware to make sure we don't "abuse" our connections.

I normally phone 0800 375 375 and they somehow do a check on my line from there...
I am also from PE but haven't had any problems.
Try this. I did it and since then my msn etc hasn't been dropping:
Set your lan back to your own personal ip. ( you won't be able to enter it again unless you set it back)
Then go to internet options and set up an internet connection, using the broadband option and with username and password, etc.
Then when you want to connect you just click on connect and voila.
And for some reason I found that that gives me a more secure connection.
Please rectify me if I'm wrong, but it works for me.
A mate of mine also had his installed and (get this, the gods must have been smiling on him) he got a techie that knew everything back to front. And the techie installed his exactly the same way mine is...
What have you got to loose?

Pings are still high, at least I wont keep disconnecting

Telkom Router are by the looks of it, not spose to be used as a router...

Problem solved for one day, and im starting to D/C again, im getting CRC errors (if i check the router page) linux server dials tho.. the telkom guy said i need 800 CRC errors over 5 mins, then its a problem... i got 7 .... someone tell me... am i supose to get none errors? coz the info this guy fed me was unreal.... IE irc= voice over ip

I think that telkom tech is smoking pot. CRC errors are a bad thing, the less the better.

Iv been connected for 13hrs and have 0 CRC errors.
