Hi guys.

Something really strange has been happening to me since Thursday. My connection just stops working every 5 or so minutes. It stalls for about a minute, then goes again.

It's extremely frustrating and my ISP, GamCo (as they always do), just tells me it's not their fault, it's Telkom's. I really don't feel like holding for Telkom any longer than I already have.

Anyone have any idea why this might be happening? I appreciate any feedback.

I am on an uncapped IS line.

Thanks,
J.

IS lines are known for their instability and high latency :(

but you should check your POTS filters on your ADSL line. you should have a POTS filter where ever you have analog telephone devices connected (telephones, fax machines, modems).... but no filter on your ADSL router.

sometimes those filters die or get zapped by lightning. You can buy new ones from a corner computer shop or from your local Telkom shop.

TheYak its prolly your Telkom ADSL line thats losing Sync . Basically disconnecting you.

Its prolly the line's SNR (Signal to Noise Ratio) wich is dropping the line. (poor line quality)

log into the router , check your sync speed (Downlink and uplink), also the SNR of the line.

Hi there guys.

Gary, I haven't changed anything on my side at all. My ADSL line does not have the POTS filter on and I don't have a telephone hooked up to it.

Napalm, these are my ADSL status
