Connection query

Good day all

I have a 1 meg DSL connection (MWEB ISP) but stay far from the exchange which results in a 62.5db attenuation on the line. This seems to lead to intermittend loss of connection which is especially frustrating when downloading from a server like Rapidshare, Oron or Filesonic.

I've tried swapping the original Telkom-issue Netgear router for a Huawei one but there seems to be no difference. Is there anything else I could try? Is there anything Telkom could do if they wanted to?

You can try to downgrade to 384, the lower bitrate might be able to handle the bad line better. Otherwise you need to get a Telkom technician out and hope he is willing to actually try and solve the problem for you. Perhaps he can find a pair on the pole with better attenuation.

I'm not sure why Telkom even allowed you to have ADSL with that high line attenuation.
Either there is a fault or you should downgrade to 384kbps.
