I work from home in Somerset West, about half an hour ago my ADSL connection started resetting, like every other minute. I'd lose comms, then it would reconnect, but I noticed the upstream sync speed kept dropping each time. It's stable now for a few minutes - hopefully this is the end of it. Anybody else having problems in the area?

I'm with Vox.

My stats are terrible at the moment...

ADSL Link Downstream Upstream
Connection Speed 10235 kbps 979 kbps
Line Attenuation 30 db 7.5 db
Noise Margin 11 db 5 db

The constant resets have started again, I'm currently sync'ing at:

DownStream Connection Speed 10235 kbps
UpStream Connection Speed 420 kbps

So frustrating.

Where are you? I'm in Canwick, Bridgewater and had some issues a few weeks back. No problems now - kids are busy watching Showmax on the TV and I've been up since my last reboot last night.

Have you got a spare POTS filter? or just take the phone off the line and connect direct. Has happened to me before. Also try a different power point - another thing that screwed up my line once.

ISP: Afrihost
Line: 8Mbps

Also with Vox. 021-855..... Braeview exchange seems okay. I have not had any problems

Thanks for the replies all. I don't think it's a POTS or power supply or anything, I've a sneaking suspicion it's the cable to the Telkom pole outside my home. I'm a software developer working from home, here in the Roundhay area, so I know what's going on with the various jacks etc.

A few years back Telkom had to clean up the joint to the pole because of fraying caused I guess by wind and surrounding trees - and that was triggered by my connection going bellyup. The problem started around the time the wind came through yesterday and seems to be ok right now, and the wind isn't blowing so much at the moment. My upstream noise stat is still 5DB which is pretty poor. I've logged a fault with Telkom and hopefully when they call I'll be able to convince them to send out a tech.

Also with Vox, around the corner from you, not having any issues recently. Wind was gusting quite a bit yesterday, fortunately most of our lines run underground so not affected by the wind.

Also in Bridgewater and everyday this week my router is in a connecting state when I get home. Not sure if related to this.

Roundhay, says it all. I had endless problems with my ADSL when I was living in Drama Street. Its always those last few meters as its an old area. Telkom has put in a lot of effort over the years to upgrade Roundhay.

Mine is useless from Friday evenings until Monday morning. Only way I can get online is 3G. 021-851.
