I've a desktop iBurst modem, connecting via ethernet cable. I'm running Windows XP.

For a long time (~6 months) using iBurst, I did not experience this problem which has recently become inescapable, meaning I can no longer use the internet.
It started occurring November last year. My machine has aso been completely reformatted in the interim, and the problem reoccurs.

After being connected to iBurst for an indefinite time (usually between 10 minutes to 2 hours), I'll notice that all internet traffic stops. The tray connection icon also does not respond to any clicks, and I can in no way disconnect the connection.

If I shut the PC down normally, windows reaches the "Saving your settings..." screen and proceeds no further, resulting in me having to power the machine down manually.

Has anyone experienced a similar problem? My guess is that the modem may have been damaged in some way, since the software I've been running pre-and post-format have not changed significantly.

It's not a modem issue.

I had the same problem till I
A) Stopped using my onboard Nvidia Network adapter and starting using a Card
B) Moved to Vista

Not sure which fixed it exactly but I have a tingling feeling it's Nvidia at fault as another Iburst user on a different mobo BUT also with a Nvid onboard had the same problem.

Now you mention it, you may be absolutely correct regarding the nVidia board - the problem started occurring at the same time I switched from USB to the ethernet cable. I'll check for more board updates, and if that does not solve it, it's back the USB cable again.

Thanks :)

Happened to my first modem... until I got a replacement... now I just leave my modem on a router
