Obviously that Megane II is in another league to the the Vivo but it is quite old and will cost a lot to replace anything not if but when it breaks.The Vivo is simpler but will give less hassles, won't give you problems for many years and when it does there are tons of spares around.
Also take a look at a Ford Figo or 2nd hand Hyundai i20.

Well said! Resale value of vivo will also be much better, and easier to sell should you decide to. These French cars are expensive to maintain, and you usually end up waiting long for parts.

What's the price of the vivo ? Rather buy an older bm or even a used golf. Check around, the more thoroughly you look, the better deal you will get.
Most Mybb users will suggest a Hyundai i20, its a good overall package, worth the look.
PS. If go to a new car dealer, go along with pamphlets/catalogues of other car brands to show that you are shopping around for the best deal.

I disagree to that statement. My Megane cambelt service last year at Renault was cheaper than a same year VW Polo. I'm about to replace the rear wheel bearings (incl hubs) (in stock at my local Renault dealer), and it's cheaper than the Auris's parts from Toyota!
@OP - The 2 cars in question is worlds apart from each other. Make your choice on what your needs are.
Megane is safer and have lots more KW's but never as economical as Vivo
Megane is bigger and better tourer that Vivo

What year is the Megane?
The high mileage will probably mean you will be doing maintenance/repairs on it sooner, so you must add those to the sales price to properly compare it to a new car.

To chip in on Renaults. I am fixing up an old Megane 2001 hatch (to flog). The fuel line is a plastic pipe around 1.5m long and costs R600 odd from Renault ...
Good on them for stocking a 10+ year old part for their cars! And to add to that, it's 2 generations old.
To clarify my post, I'm not one for buying the R600 part, I'll rather use a hosepipe/makeshift something.
Renault's tend to get a bad rap and some of their models (the Megane II) is one of them. I would not buy it second hand for the fact that the cost of repair is going to cost you more in the long run. So buy the new Vivo rather. Not a "luxury" car, but it will take you from point A to point B with a 3 year warranty.

Not stocked, ordered and waiting for it. As to using a hose, I'd rather not when it comes to a fuel line.
I always read don't buy French, bla bla bla.
I had a 2003 307 for four years now I just sold and when I compare what I got in terms of quality and comfort versus what I spent, I got out ahead by miles.
That said, realize that these are usually higher priced cars new and parts can be expensive. They are usually just as expensive as the other brands

Even if both cars requires maintenance or spare parts at the same time (@120 000km for example) and the prices of parts / mainenance are the same, the megane would need maintenance sooner. At the price you are wanting to pay, the megane would have more kms on it.
These cars are in 2 totally different classes. The Vivo is an entry level car and won't come standard with things like aircon, power windows, abs, etc.
