Considering ADSL but I need advise

I'm considering getting ADSL but have some questions.

First I must apply for my normal Telkom voice line.

Is it better to apply for the ADSL line through Telkom or will it be better to get the bundle packages from Afrihost / WebAfrica etc ?

Who will be quicker to install the ADSL line, Telkom or ISP ?

Capped or uncapped ? I do not really make use of Peer to Peer or Torrents. I do not expect to use more than 50-70Gb per month.

Is there really such a big difference between capped and uncapped speeds ?

I would advise you to rather do everything through Telkom at first. This will allow you to work with Telkom directly.

If an ISP has your line then troubleshooting can be a chore as all communication has to first go to the ISP then to Telkom as apposed to just between you and Telkom.

That would be my advice.

EDIT: And go capped if you're only using max 70GB. Uncapped can be a pain if you cheap out.
 
Get one of the bundle deals from telkom so the entire installation is free.

NEVER EVER let a isp handle your line as it will just cause you grief!

Yes.

Take a good look at the Telkom Simple deals...those are a decent starting point...just keep insisting on "month to month" as opposed to signing a 24 month contract. As long as you manage that you'll be fine...thats the one fck-up that we cannot help you recover from....everything else is fixable.

Also...google the many telkom simple threads @ free modem...its been discussed extensively.

The big question is....if you get yourself proper and fast ADSL....will you change your nickname?! :)
 
But seriously. I was in your position three months ago. Then decided to get ADSL. I went for the Telkom Simple plan.
5+5GB Data and 2MB line for R399 including free line instalation and free modem/wifi router. Also comes with a free promotional Telkom Mobile 3GB USB modem with 200MB data for 12 months.

Not shabby when you consider the prices of modems.
At first I thought I would need much more data as I was intent on downloading the interwebz using P2P but it quickly blew over. Now i'm just downloading what I need and not just for the sake of it. That said 10GB will not be enough if you wish to do streaming which I have not done much yet.

This Simple plan is it month to month or 24 months contract because I read in the T&C something about a 24 month sales agreement ?
