Considering switching over to Afrihost from CellC

Hi, Afrihost offers prices that I simply cannot ignore as being superior to all other mobile providers, and am therefore planning on switching over. R58/mo for 1GB is worth far more than R49/mo for 50MB and other stuff I never use (like SMS). I am currently on a contract with CellC Samsung Galaxy Nexus Straight Up 50 @ R289/mo.
I understand that I have to have an MTN number in order to use Afrihost. So, can I switch to MTN and keep my number, then cancel the Straight Up 50 with CellC? Will CellC allow me to use a non-CellC card during contract?

If you want to use AH on your cellphone you need an MTN contract. Not just an MTN number.
 
MTN Contract as mentioned.

And... i looked at MTN Topup contracts... Sadly these bill you R2.85/minute, and after your 'top up' allocation is finished, then your recharges will get the 79c/min rate. Sucks i know.
 
One thing I know is on my AH sim I can't make voice calls/sms. Maybe that's where the MTN contract comes in

unless I understood wrong, it has to be a post paid contract.
 
Or get a decent dual sim phone.

I have a cellc contract, but find their mobile data in my area so bad that I use AH for data.

This. Cell C data is so bad as to be unusable. I've had it on multiple devices in multiple cities. Seriously, Afrihost is so much better it's chalk and cheese.
 
Yeah get a MTN top Up contract.

They have cheaper call rates than the open line contracts. R2.5 per minute excluding the discount. Now that MTN has made ATLEAST 30min of each hour 80% discount to MTN numbers and 70% discount to other networks with MTN Zone per second for topup customers its actually cheaper than 79c in most cases.

80% discount = R0.50c per minute and 70% discount = 75c per minute.


I think a Anytime topup 100 contract for R65 per month is the best solution. Basically get a bit of free airtime, LTE access, afrihost apn option and free or very low call rates with MTN Zone and the added benifit of no shocking bills if you set the apn wrong or your device reverts back. You also able to load airtime and buy the MTN PAYG bundles which will bring the rate down to 79c per minute and give you free MTN to MTN minutes and sms and data.
