Howzit guys

Wen my computer starts up, it goes past the windows XP loading screen and then shows a blue screen where is says
"One of you hard disks need to be checked for consistency"

How can fix this problem, because it doesnt allow me to exit no matter wat i press! Please help guys...Thanx:confused:

chkdsk needs to be run entirely for it to go away. You probably have a corrupt file and it's making XP unhappy.

You can press any key to cancel the scan before it starts, but once it is busy doing a check, you have to wait...

Or you can format your hard drive and install something proper.

i cant format that drive. it has over 200gb of music, videos, pictures, and programs as well as programs that i have creAted, all my passwords, codes, algorithms, and all my important documents, u think if i run avast to check it, it might work??

Rather schedule a disk check.

Right click on the drive in my computer, click properties. Under the tools tab, click on error-checking. Enable the "automatic fix file system errors" and "Scan for and attempt recovery of bad sector" options and click start. You might have to restart windows before it will scan the drive.

The reason it wants check the disk before windows starts is because during the shutdown process, the contents of the virtual cache are written to the hard drive. The data is generally written to the hard disk's onboard cache but not to the disk itself. When this occurs, the data is lost from the cache when the computer turns off, causing errors in the file system.

When Windows is not shutdown correctly it will perform an AutoCheck using CHKDSK on the next restart. This setting controls the time delay before running Autochk or whether it is run at all.
This is just a tempory fix to stop it running. Just change the reg value to zero

Registry Settings
System Key: [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Contro l\Session Manager]
Value Name: AutoChkTimeOut
Data Type: REG_DWORD (DWORD Value)
Value Data: Time in Seconds or 0 to disable (default = 10)
