I'm more than a little peeved at the status quo of game distribution in the mzanzi right now. Honestly its a load of BS. I own a PS3. I could jailbreak it and download my games and that way play everything I want, but I choose to buy the games I play and the games I enjoy. I dont need 10TB of games I'll hardly ever play. After all. Piracy is wrong.

Hah! little did I know.

Being honest has its drawbacks it appears! You see, unlike with piracy where you can download whatever you want, whenever you want, game distribution in SA is seems to be linked to retailers only selling the titles that they are sure to sell in volumes and profit handsomely on. If you are looking for a niche title, you're **** outta luck.

Example. Ive been looking for Rocksmith for the past year. I've also been looking for Top Spin 4 and Gand Slam Tennis 2 for the past couple of months. But hell, if i want some game where a little bo-peep like girl gets to rip the head off a zombie, those are availble by the truckload. But a tennis game, or something like Rocksmith - FORGET IT!!!

Now here's where it gets typically south African. I walk into BT games and Musica and I'm told by the underpaid assistants that the game is not available. Thats it. Its just not available, end og conversation. Not interested.

These retailers are granted distribution rights of console game titles but they cant do more than tell me the obvious - that the game is not available on the shelf. Seriously - SOURCE IT FOR ME! FIND IT - MAKE A PLAN!!! But no, they only work there, earning minimum wage which obviously means they can't even tell me me who the distributor is because they are not allowed to. Go ahead, see for yourself.... Canal Walk Musica and BT games.

Ok, so what about Kalahari, Takealot and other on line retailers? Well you can send a request but you have a better chance of winning the lotto than you do of getting a response.

I know I appear to be childishly irritated here but the point is that these retailers are all granted a license or a right by Sony and Microsoft to distribute these games via whatever distribution channels there are. I'm sick of seeing these titles on line at Amazon and other stores that overseas for a fraction of the prices they are sold for here and then I'm told that even if I were prepared to mortgage my house to get the game, I simply can't because they have no stock. Seriously its bull****. Where did I agree that by buying a PS3 I would accept that the titles I want to play might not be available in my country. I paid 15% more for my console than my middle aged averaged income equivalent in Bristol, England did. I am prepared to pay 20% to 30% more for the title I want to play than my equivalent in New York would.

Why do I have to accept that the games I want are simply not possible to get.

Anyone else feel the same, or are all of you only into zombie killing games that you can buy at Shoprite?

i agree with you. i also decided not to jailbreak my ps3 since i am in a position where i can buy games for it (something i couldn't do as a student) but none of the game shops in my area (cape town/canal walk) have games i am interested in. so whats the point? i might just jailbreak it after all.

I'm impressed. I thought patriotism in our country had expired loooong ago. Maybe not.

Please accept my apologies for the offensive title. It wasn't meant to be racist. It was meant to portray a backward, technologically delayed police state, as in the one controlled when the NP was in power pre 1990's. It was spelled like PW used to say it.

That said, anyone have any tips on where / howto get Rocksmith. Please?

Google dude. Seriously.

By the way, it is Megarom and Apex who is to blame. Not the people selling the games. Believe me. I struggled like you cannot believe to get any answers from those companies when I ran an online games shop. Had to close my virtual doors, not because of lack of customers, but lack of support from the suppliers. If you are not BT Games, or Takealot, they couldn't care.

Have you heard of PSN or Amazon?

Ok. That's helpful. Thank you.

Did you notice that it is sourced from the US? Which means that the price is inflated beyond what normal distribution would cost.

I'm not saying I cant get the games I want, I'm saying distribution of games in SA needs to improve so that we can get what we want, through a normal retail channel without having to pay inflated shipping costs.

One is an Ubisoft game (Rocksmith) and the other an EA game (GS Tennis). Both are less than 12 months into original distrbution. They should be easily available.

Google takes me to very helpful commerce websites, all of whom have stock of the game but none of whom ship to SA without doubling the cost of the game. As my orignal post says... What is up with me having to pay double for a game just because of lame distribution?

Cost of game (GS Tennis) via Amazon: R209
Cost of shipping via Amazon: R188
