Console yourself these holidays

I wouldn't mind a game console...
Being a Linux user I'm not much of a gamer though. I used to buy about 5 or 6 games per year way way back when I was still unenlightend and used Windows.. :p
Since switching to Linux that's completely stopped ... - saved me some money at least :D

I do sometimes miss some of my favorite games though... ("Delta Force" to name one)..
So a console might console me in my loss :D .. problem is I absolutely refuse to buy anything coming out of Redmond... and I don't really like Sony either for all their DRM nonsense - even if it doesn't affect me, it's the thought that counts...

Maybe I should look into this "Wii" thing...

EDIT: Oh and another thing: Why don't they make a console with a standard D-Sub "VGA" output? That it could just be plugged into your PC monitor? I don't have a TV and have no intention of getting one... the only way I'd be able use these consoles is to plug it into my video projector.. nice big screen at least - but a big hassle just for playing a game..

The Xbox 360 can be plugged into any VGA monitor. Will need to buy an Xbox VGA cable though - cost anywhere from R150-R250 depending on whether you buy the original, or a 3rd party produced cable.

"Xbox" should probably be changed to "Xbox 360". Anyways I'm all for Nintendo Wii.

Fact of the day: Wii has sold around double the PS3 in the same time frame.

Isnt that just a matter of availability - I'm sure if Sony had made more there would have been plenty of fools queuing up to buy it. :)

More fools eh? Funny how people knock something they haven't even tried for themselves. Granted - the PS3 games are rather thin at present but the PS3 has only been out for around 3 months so isn't it a little unfair for everyone to be hammering it so badly?

Truth is all of the consoles look really nice...however I for one would like Blu-ray, Wifi, a nice 60GB hard drive (my 360 is always full) and the processing power to give me more realism (a more life-like world in something like in GTA IV, Oblivion, etc.). Of course most of the time everyone seems to be anti GTA (currently released versions) these days too and yet the games have sold so many copies...

Ah well - let's please not debate about which console is better!

XBOX360 is a jerky affair. The game don't run at 50fps, they run at 30fps I think? This must be because every game has to be at least 720p (1280x720)? What do you guys think of them sacrificing temporal resolution (frame rate) for spatial resolution (frame size). The games have to conform to HD so now they don't run so well?? Someone in the know, please clarify???? Thanks
