Hi there, regardless of what destination I ping or use with WINMTR (local or international) there seems to always be consistent packet loss on hop 3, and it's a local termination. This doesn't seem ever to get better and it's ALWAYS suffering from packet loss on that 3rd hop.

I've escalated this numerous times however not getting any resolution.

The destination is U14P-cust.coolideas.co.za (154.0.5.185)

Hi there, loss along a route doesn't actually matter and is quite normal. Unless it cascades to the final endpoint.

I'd have to disagree, any amount of packet loss above 3% is considered sub-optimal in routing. Especially if the hop is one of your first hops along the route.

Not so, routers will natively drop a % of icmp. In your case, that is actually one of Vumatels routers/switches.

As mentioned before, it's completely normal behaviour.

Your focus should be on the destination, which is effective to the relationship from host to host.

If the loss cascades, then that is the indication of where on the path the loss originates.

Appreciate the feedback, thanks.
