I am an Axxess client who recently shifted a 4mbit uncapped service for household use.
Since moving over, I have begun encountering massive numbers of disconnections identified as 'port errors' by phone technicians. My internet speeds are stable, but these disconnections take place extremely often and disrupt my experience.
These disconnections normally take place in the afternoon and evenings, with a modem restart fixing the problem until the next disconnect.
Telkom has dispatched technicians who weren't able to fix the issue.
The most recent technician stated that they could fix the issue by moving me from 'Eligwa 3 to MSAN' by asking at a nearby Telkom retail outlet (I live in the Vaal area). Can someone explain to me in layman's terms what this will do, is it likely to fix the issue and how long will it take?
I was told by a family friend that Telkom is doing maintenance or upgrade work on many exchanges in the Gauteng area and is causing higher speed internet users to have these issues, but lower speed users are fine. This seems consistent with the fact that I moved from a 1mbit MWEB service to 4mbit Axxess service and the issue appeared. Can anyone verify if this is true? May I receive a layman's explanation on how to fix this if it is true? I was told by my friend that if I wanted completely stable internet, I would have to downgrade my internet package's speed until I found a stable speed. Is this true?
Please and thank you.
