Hi guy's I hear that Iburst will be charging more for out of bundle rates for your data. Please guys STOP complaining and choose another provider. Choices are there for you MTN 3G Vodacom 3G and Sentech if you have coverage. Consumer Boycotting is the best way of telling the providers of how you feel. Let them see their profits and subscribers numbers fall. Then we will get a better deal. Hope Cell-c can sort out their EDGE data network and provide some stability for us too. Edge is quite good for most applications if it works at the proper speeds. Another company we need to target is Cell-C. Hope some overseas investor buys it and sorts out the data problems quickly. More wireless consumers will come from the dial up market and the medium to low income groups.

Put the pressure on.

the way they going the consumers are going to boycott them anyway, they focing a consumer boycott onto themselves

I think I speak for several others when I say I am very dependent on my iBurst connection. Whilst it's a rip-off and iBurst sucks, it works for me. The 3G/HSDPA offerings do not work well where I am located due to basestation being so congested we struggle to get SMSes through and cannot make calls on weekends. I am too far from the exchange for ADSL and Telkom refuse to pull local leads into our complex due to the pipes being blocked.

I fully support your stance on this matter and believe it is a viable way of making companies wake up to the fact that they need to start putting the consumer first.

However, as JTech pointed out, sometimes it is just not an alternative. The coverage of the different providers plays a huge part in a consumers decision and at times one is just stuck with the one alternative.

The providers know this and until each of the providers covers all the areas of their competitors thereby making it a much easier decision to switch SP's, we will continue to have these problems.

There is no quick fix for the position we as consumers find ourselves in for a variety of reasons, but it is also no reason to stop complaining and accept what we have been given.

unfortunately the consumer boycott will not work... people rely on their inet connections exactly like Telkom where people rely on their phone lines to communicate with anyone else... They know this, which is why they know they can screw you over and get away with it.

Personally I only have Iburst as my phone/inet/means of communication to the outside world. I don't want to support telkom which is why I don't have a phone line! I will only pay for a service that can provide me with a connection. I have to agree that the Iburst Product WORKs when you get a decent signal and non-overloaded basestations.

I can say at least they are trying with the Customer/Client Relentionship, even though it's not enough but it's still better than Telkom's support! Compared to MTN and Vodacom - they do not have a softcap which will not benefit me. Plus the data carry over with an additional 200/500mb is a step forward. I don't see telkom/vodacom/mtn/cellc giving me a 64kbps connection once I use all my cap.

right now if I had to move to ADSL I would surely have to pay for a line rental, adsl rental, isp charges + additional bandwidth when I've reached my cap and to move from 1Mbps down to 384Kbps will not make me very happy.

I would love to just swap across and have no more worries but its basically impossible for all of us to just throw away our R2000 modeoms and just buy new ones. Its not practical at the moment.

Ja, I just spent two and a half grand on their equipment, now I have to spend that again to move to other service providers who aren't top notch either...

I agree with fishfly, I don't see anyone else having a 64kbps softcap.
I'll hold my breath and wait for Neotel...

DXL - Mobile. I don't suppose your an alternative wireless broadband provider?

Not much of a choice since even with iBurst's problems it is better than the first two mentioned above.........as for sentech, well they've seen better days and do not even feature anymore.:rolleyes:

I'd have to disagree on that. Though Vodacom 3G has a fair share of problems, MTN isn't too bad. I know a few people who use MTN HSDPA and their experience with it has been good so far. The problem with Vodacom is that they are oversubscribed. Then again, that's the problem with iBurst as well! :rolleyes:

Exactly what I was thinking, is he coming in here and taking advantage of the iBurst out of bundle increases (even though they are less than the services he mentions) to possibly get us to sign up with him/them?

I see he has a point but I really wonder about his intentions, does he really care about us, its his first post here....

I agree, and their (Cell providers) offerings aren't really meant for fixed solutions. For me the only alternative would be ADSL, unfortunately.

My experience as an ex-iBurst subscriber:

First I got lucky. Guess Nick let up since I have already had all my hell.;)

Slightly less than two weeks ago I applied for a DSL Self Install option where you get a free wireless/4port router. A week later I received a call, line tested and approved etc. Go pick up my router :eek:

Due to work load I went to pick it up on Friday. Cash outlay: R9.95 for a single to dual point telephone connector

My situation does not allow me to predict how much bandwidth I will be using.
I tend to use between 3 to 5GB / month.

So for 5GB (worst case, UTD paid cash @ R2,???.00)

On iBurst at old rates:
3G = R599.00
2G = R318.00 (R159 * 2)
============
5G = R917.00 ~ 0.18/m
============

New Rates: (http://www.mybroadband.co.za/nephp/?m=show&id=5999)
3.5 G = R599.00
2.0 G = R398.00 (R199.00 * 2)
============
5.5 G = R997.00 ~ 0.18/m
============

Same calculation for 4.5M
3.5 G = R599.00
1.0 G = R199.00
============
4.5 G = R798.00 ~ 0.17/m
============

I need a Telkom line, so I am not including that cost.
My new costing structure
ADSL 500k line: R362.00
Axxess 3G shaped R209.00 (http://www.axxess.co.za/prepaid.php)
Axxess 2G Shaped R138.00 (2 * R69.00)
===============================
5.0 G Shaped = R709.00 ~ 0.14/m
===============================

The nice part is I am in no contract. Niks. Njada. :cool:

If Neotel comes in, great! If somebody else can give me a better deal: Great!

Note: I could reduce the Axxess account further by going into a contract.

I have deliberately used shaped, vs unshaped. I have had probelm with my connection as a longstanding ex-iBurst customer. The ADSL speed selected is also a 512k line, which exceeds my "1G" degraded to ~ 100k to 300k link.

These figures are based on my requirements. However, they clearly show you can look at options and get a better deal.

Service? I never received that at iBurst? :confused:

It is easy find excuses to stay where you are. This allows service providers to screw you. Unfortunately reality sometimes dictates you can't change. It took me a while to find what works better. We have a lot of savvy users. Read and ask!

Do not be held to ransom!

The rebuttal.

Yeah - if we choose to use it instead of the throttled (free) bandwidth. No other wireless provider allows that AFAIK.

No. Why should we stop complaining? It's our right as customers.

IF you have coverage. Which I do, but I don't feel like throwing my investment away just yet.

Keep on hoping.
DXL said:

For you, perhaps. iBurst still gives me the most consistent speeds - and I should know. I use MTN EDGE on a daily basis.

Thanks, but no thanks. Even with the pricing as it is (and yes, I agree that it is stupid), iBurst delivers for me. Obviously this is a personal decision, as always, but those that want to leave have already made the choice and moved. The rest of us are either happy with the service we receive (which is possible, even with iBurst), or have no other viable option at this time. Roll on NeoTel.

Is that the thing that allows a phone and the modem to share the line?

Yes, that is it. I had a single telephone point. Could not find one at my regular electronic shops. Found it at my local SPAR ;)

I have those on both of my phone connections, so how would POTS filters work with that, do I really need one on every port even if it is unused?

I only have 1 phone line with 4 connections, I would only use 2 once DSL is installed.
