Contacting the MTN contact call centre while roaming

Hey all,
I've been trying to contact the MTN contract call centre while roaming in Aus. I've had no joy calling 808, 809, or 173 and variations... +27-83- or +27-83-1- or just 83 without the country code. Also tried via VoIP providers. Same outcome. No luck. Just disconnects.
Hoping someone else has figured this out.
