Hi there,

I was wondering.... If i had 2 packages on mywireless, one connecting to say BS 126 and the other to BS 12, and i connect using a VPN between the 2 modems, does the contention ratio apply to the link between these to modems as well or is it only when you access the internet. Also what if they were running off the same BS?

Thanks

Bernard

Welcome to the Forum Burny
In regards to VPN, latency between myWi users and a fixed line is high enough, +200ms
2 Mywireless users get terrible latency (roughly your ping to sentech * 2)
so its not a great idea for VPN's,
In regards to contention, the contention does apply, I've even tested between 2 modems on the same node of a tower. This would not be the case, if sentech implemented authentications at the tower level, all the traffic could run independantly of the MyWi network traffic.

Thanks for the feedback!

I'll have to rethink whether or not i'm gonna use Mywireless.

Regards,

Bernard

Why da F** You just answer like that man... Just chilled and keep your opinions to your self...

MyWireless user:

512K

Inter: 59.6KB ( Average 42KB )
Local: 72.8KB ( Average 55KB )
mmmmm... Wanna say don't????

Just an observation, all these threads are rather ancient, some circumstances might have changed, and the MyWireless service might have changed as well. It would be better to highlight the changes in the service itself than respond to essentially old critique...;)

I'm on the 256 package. Lately my average speed, when I'm not downloading, has been around 60kbps - 130kbps. Not exactly something to be happy about. Earlier this year the speeds were much better. I was averaging around 200kbps which is still acceptable. Check out my tcpiq stats for a more accurate result. You'll notice the steady downward trend for the standard deviation. The Distribution page shows the the previous speeds of 190 - 210kbps being the peak. Now the 140 - 150kbps is starting to catch up and the lower end of the graph is also jumping. All in all, the service is getting worse

I see...

Things aren't always the same everywhere...
I respect that...

iz good, iz good, iz nice...

It was either from a washing powder advert or Chicken Licken - not sure which...

Back on topic, Itsnice, what is the state of your MyWi connection?, which tower(s) are you using?, do you use a cantenna or other contraption like the Big@ss™?
