the little discussed contentious issue of contention ratios....

what are they?

cybersmart informs me their uncapped home accounts are 15:1 and their business uncapped accounts are 5:1

can anyone comment on other isp contention ratios for uncapped?

HAHAHAHAHA
You did not comprehend apparently.
Let me be a little more clear...
Cybersmart's contention ration is 15:1 for home uncapped and 5:1 for business uncapped.

WHAT ARE THE OTHER ISP's CONTENTION RATIOS FOR THEIR UNCAPPED ACCOUNTS?

This is the biggest factor when determining consistency and speed of an account IMO... it's also the biggest secret in the industry it seems.

Leased line is quality - 1:1. :p
Diginet 2mbps - R12k per month. Guaranteed speeds.

Yep. Not an option. But isn't it strange we don't talk about contention ratios and the ISP's don't advertise it? It's a bit like the digital camera market. It's all about megapixel numbers and not collector size.

Hi There,
There was this discussion on Contention Ratios some time back and I agree it does seem to be a well hidden piece of information. I checked on my ISP at home and in the T&C it refers to it constantly fluctuating but they do not put a from and to figure on to it.

Sorry I could not help more

Actually that's a decent piece of information... the fact that they don't commit to a number. I think it's a core piece of information and should be a big factor in your choice when choosing a package... I think it's time to ask the reps why they don't do this.

I wasn't happy with Cybersmart earlier this year, but since around June my ADSL has been perfect gaming on UK servers.

I switched to Business Uncapped from a capped account and it works as well for gaming / streaming.

P2P goes slower during the day, not sure if it is shaped but it suits me. At night so far I always get 100% of the line speed. I use about 100gb / month.
