Continuum/Subspace high-latency

Last month, I went from running on my dad's company server onto a 512 ADSL unshaped, unpatched and uncapped from UUNet.

Before getting the account, I purposely made a point about having a server fast enough to play online games. Whether it being South Africa or overseas.

I'm not really into FPS, nor have I tried playing any RTS.

What I have tried to play is Continuum... which I incredibly love.

I'm able to play for a matter of seconds and then I suddenly get booted for 'high-latecy' or another ping error.

I noticed, by tracing using the in-game function, that there are South African players from saix.net (if I remember correctly).

Is anybody able to play Continuum/subspace without having any problems? Is it just my UUNet connection?

Continuum doesn't seem to be a very high bandwidth application and I even seem to be having problems running mIRC on international servers. Especially during work hours.

I ran the Telkom test and got the following results:
Your line speed is approximately 402.3 Kbps or 49.3 kBytes/sec

Ping
Sometimes, I'm able to get as low as high 600's, mid 700's, low 800's, but that's just on a lucky day. Even with those pings, I still get stuck into spectator mode after a few seconds.

Trace
As you can see by the trace, there are South African users running. One even from UUNet.

Has my account been cursed? Will I be able to run games such as CS:Source, Warcraft III and Quake 3 on international servers?

That one from UUNet is you. Traceroute just tells you the route the traffic takes to reach the server from your destination. As for the latency, I think UUNet have had problems lately but if that's not the problem then you should probably try out some local games/servers or try and get a proxy account or something like that with better latency.

If that's still impossible, many gamers still use ISDN because it's unshaped, lower international latency and "cheaper".
