Contoling PC with remote mouse, keyboard and screen over lan

Hi Guys,

I hope someone can help me with this. . .

Esentially what I'd like to do is to operate my pc(that is located in my home office) over LAN from my lounge.

I want to buy a wireless mouse and keyboard and run my tv as my computer screen in the lounge - so I dont have to be in my home office all the time.

My lounge and office are very far apart but are connected via lan and I have routers in both.

Hope that makes sense - is there a way to do this?

So it seems from some reading I'm trying do like a reverse KVM switch over lan type of thing? Any ideas

You'd need something to connect the KB & mouse too, like another PC, or an Android phone.

Yes, that works great, if you have a local PC to control the remote one with.

ah ok then now I understand. best would be USB over CAT5 and then get a wireless keyboard and mouse and then also run HDMI over cat 5( they both cat 5 extenders) works like a charm

If you have wi-fi you can get a wi-fi keyboard/mouse combo, use a laptop or use one of the many remote control apps for phones.

Yes, that works great, if you have a local PC to control the remote one with.

Could be a thin client. Wouldn't necessarily need to be a full blown PC

How far? Is easy to control your PC over a LAN. I do it with my phone and my ipad. But you also want the display to go to your TV. I think somebody mention a HDMI over CAT5... maybe that can work for you.

Maybe you can get a long VGA (i've seen some 25mts VGA cables) for the display to the TV. And for the keyboard and the mouse your smartphone or your tablet can do the job (RealVNC app works for me).

AFAIK HDMI extenders run over CAT5 but don't use ethernet. If this is the case, you would need a dedicated cable for the HDMI.

The little esquire keyboard/trackball works nicely with htpc, especially xbmc with its big buttons.

You get a wireless VGA/keyboard/mouse extender (2 units) that should do the trick, one at the pc and other one at the TV, then you plug your wireless keyboard and mouse in the one at the tv.

KISS. ShawnStar has in my opinion the simplest solution to the problem.
Of course it does assume that the devices are within wireless range
