Hi guys and girls,

I currently have a vodacom topup contract which has not yet reached 2years, but I find myself without a phone. I wish to move to a cell C contract and keep my same number.

There is +-R400 airtime on the topup vodacom contract which I would like to move to a prepaid voda sim with another number.

I have my vodacom contract cancellation quotation already.

How do I proceed?

Should I just sacrifice the voda airtime?

Do I take out the cell C contract, then cancell the vodacom one or the other way around?

And lastly, can it all be done in one trip to the mall?

Top Up Customers
1. Top Up customers must be provisioned for this service by their SP, which provisioning may be denied.
2. All active Vodacom Top Up customers will be able to receive airtime from other valid Vodacom customer.
3. Top Up customers may not transfer any of the credit they receive on the 1st of every month.
4. Top Up customers are able to transfer 80% of all recharges made above the airtime credit received on the 1st of every month. The minimum amount allowed that may be transferred at one time still is R2 and the maximum R2000 per month.
5. If the transferring Top Up customer is locked for any reason, transfer will not be possible.

The way I understand it is you can't transfer airtime you receive monthly, only up to 80% of your recharges. Better to convert to data and download something. I would cancel the contract over the phone wait for it to be on prepaid and then go to Cell C.

Listen. Get a cell c sim and test it before you cancel anything.

Yes cell c is the cheapest, but what's the point if it doesn't work? Some people are fine on cell c, others like me find is simply unusable.

You can do one of the following:

1. Pay the prem cancelation fee and have your number converted to prepaid. Once done ... port to where you want to go.
2. Port your number as is .... vodacom will then assign a PO substitute number to your contract. Once this is done you can request a sim swop on that substitute number to continue using the monthly airtime you will receive for the remainder of your contract while your old number is now with your new SP.

To port .... you need to visit your new service provider as they will initiate the process.

You cannot transfer the monthly airtime of a top up contract to another number.

Number two is quite interesting, never knew that option.

I tried this and got the following sms, "Your request to leave the Vodacom network was rejected: MNP - Invalid Contract Type"

It was a topup contract. I just cancelled it and had the number shifted to prepaid instead.
