Contract ends next month - Wait for the best data deal?

Hi everyone,

I need some advice please. My current Telkom contract ends next month. Must I stay with the month to month data from Telkom and wait for a good data deal to pop up from any of the mobile operators? Telkom did contact me today to offer me another kak 24 months deal and I declined it.

What is the best current deal on data from any of the mobile operators? I cannot use Rain in my area. The speed is kak slow.

I bought cell c prepaid R500 for 50gb for my dual sim phone. CELL C has the best speed at home. Averages 20mb/s. Deal ends in June. 6 month validity on the day so I'm gonna buy a few more to last me the year.
 
I have been using one of the Afrihost/MTN Pure LTE bundles for the last six months and it has been working very reliably even during the lockdown. My download speeds vary between 30~60Mbps and the upload speeds are around 10Mbps. The 30GB+30GB package costs R199 per month, the 60GB+60GB is R349 and there are much larger packages as well. Topup data is also quite cheap on these plans - 10GB for R70, 25GB for R150 etc.

They only allow you to use the packages on one of these approved routers - Huawei B525, B612, B618 or ZTE MF286. I already had a suitable B618 router which I was using previously for Rain Fixed LTE so i only needed to install a new SIM card in my B618. This is a good option if you currently have a suitable router. Otherwise you could purchase 61 day prepaid bundles from Telkom and use them over 2 months to reduce your cost.

My problem is that I only have Telkom LTE coverage in my area. I have to stay with Telkom it seems. The decision is what to do? do I stay on a month to month cost at R450/ 80Gig or upgrade to R499/ 160Gig. The only option is to upgrade. 3G Broadband prices are very expensive.

If so, you could also consider a 220GB+220GB 61 day prepaid bundle which costs R1059 or R530pm for 110GBpm. The 220GB night time data will only be available for the first month. The 120GB+120GB bundle costs R759 or R380pm for 60GB anytime data per month and 120GB night time data for the first month.

Hey Jake45. Thanks for all your help hey. I had a look at those. My budget is at about R500-R600. I'm looking at getting 80Gb+80Gb. I do not need big data because I do not do any streaming or downloading games. I also realised that I could go with Axxess. They have Telkom LTE on a month to month option. 80Gb+80Gb for R499.00 month to month. I'll cancel with Telkom.
