What I want to know is on a contract you subsidize the phone so the cost of the contract is a certain amount.
Now that the contract is finished, they should bring the cost of the contract down correct?

Also if one wanted to cancel is there a 30 day period?
If one wanted to port as well what would be the process.

I am seriously looking at Telkom, it just doesnt make sense anymore being on VC, terrible speeds, dropped calls and paying the most expensive prices for this.

Any advice is appreciated.

Sorry Ockie :D
Although I am not 100% sold on TM yet

Would porting to another service provider not signify the termination of your contract?

Not 100% sure about Vodacom, but when my MTN contract ended I followed the following procedure:

Called MTN and asked them to convert my contract to PrePaid at the end of the month. (I am not sure if you can do it same day)

Once my contract was converted to PrePaid I bought a Telkom SimSonke simcard, went to the consultant and asked her to port my number. Follow the process and if they are to lazy to help (they claim you cannot port to Sim Sonke as an excuse) tell them to just do it anyway.

Use your old vodacom prepaid sim as normal, at some point in the next few days it will suddenly stop working. At that point plonk your new TM simcard into your phone, load some airtime and enjoy :)

Hope that helps!

P.S. do not ask vodacom to cancel your contract, ask them to convert to prepaid, otherwise they might disable your simcard and you number is gone. ;)

Hi,
I converted my Vodacom simcard to prepaid about 2-3years ago... And at the time they did require a months notice. I then did the port to CellC prepaid, and once on prepaid I then took up a new contract offer at the time. I am now back on prepaid... and scouting which network to go to. For the time being CellC is doing what I need, but I guess I am one of the lucky ones...

but My advice is always go to prepaid, then the operator wont try and play silly buggers... prepaid is simple... you will lose any airtime that you have on the simcard... but at least they cant nail you with obscene charges.

I'm on Telkom Mobile and the great thing is being able to roam on MTN when you dont have TM signal.
Only downfall is not being able to use LTE on MTN. But otherwise Im very happy with TM.

I never use LTE due to battery drain anyway so its no biggie for me.
Thanks

Hello meneer.

No, when your contract finishes then the extra amortized amount for the phone will fall away yes, but the subscription for the package will stay the same, so on the Smart XL, the price will remain R699.00 per month.

Once out of contract, you can ask me and I will migrate you to prepaid and then you can port to Telkom. You need to go to Telkom and they will process the port on their side. Telkom seems to insist that a line be converted to prepaid first before they port it over to them.

I will miss yu seksie heksie. :(

Really dont want to leave mainly from the side of service I get from you :D
That said the Telkom deal is just brilliant, Vodacom just cant compete.
I know TM isnt great in terms of quality and signal but it cant be worse than VC :D

Hey Marine,

I have been looking for another contract too and I have searched high and low. Telkom's deals simply cannot be beat. I am looking at the S5 mini with 100 all-network minutes and 1 GB all-network data for R299. And free Telkom mobile to Telkom mobile calls for the first year. And if that isn't great enough - you can use both voice and data on MTN and TM. Good luck
