So I called 808 on Friday when my contract expired, and they said they will log a call to retention department. Called again on Saturday to confirm that they logged the issue, as I never got a reference number and was told it takes around 5 working days to convert contract to prepaid.

When I read previous posts here some people said the number was converted when they called in, can anyone confirm if this is the new process or if the call center staff are just trying to stall the conversion?

I sent a email for termination.Received a confirmation with a Reference.Got an email that the service will be terminated in August.Received a SMS that the number was converted to prepaid. You also lose any accumulated airtime / data.

When I went from Contract to Prepaid at the end of the contract (ie. upgrade date + 2 months for Vodacom) the process was quite simple but I did get burned by having to pay the full month's premium for the month the contract terminated in (typical for Vodacom - the contract termination was filed end of the month of month 1 - to be terminated end of month 2 - processed a couple of days into month 3 = had to pay full for month 3...).

Regardless it will take between a few hours and a few days, and yes you lose all data and minutes.

Seems it went through this afternoon... my phone starting pinging like crazy with the MTN prepaid spam :D

Keep sending STOP. It will eventually stop. I even include a few not so flattering words after stop just for emphasis. :)
