this doesnt only apply to vodacom, but especially to mtn..

maybe Im missing something here, but do people still use sms's? and considering most people use at least 300mb a month, what is the point of 100/200/4382676/unlimited sms's and and 100mb data contracts?

It costs them nothing to add SMSs to the bundle. They still make money off data.

Thats why the Cell C and Telkom Mobile contracts make much more sense, telkom mobile is particularly generous with data on certain contracts coming with 2gb,which is fantastic for a smartphone.

To be honest I haven't tried them besides on my data dongle which got used at home only. The tower in my area was fine but I don't think it will be too bad elsewhere since they use both their own and MTN towers countrywide.

Try porting to Telkom mobile prepaid first to test the network for a few months before you commit to any contracts.
