contracts with mtn

in my opinion this is a load of bull... to me there is no benefit in any of mtn contracts. these changes were made to benefit mtn and not the customer if mtn really was onverned about the customer they will drop the charges for sms and charges per minute then tell us they are doing it for the customers.

+1

As far as I can tell they do, since a phone is always more expensive on Vodacom than on MTN, their contracts are better, and you can choose Anytime Off peak if you need more minutes (to compare with Weekender). I guess it depends what you need. I've saved quite a lot on my Anytime 200.

You must have a special deal, because I have found exactly the opposite.

My opinion of the new MTN contracts is that have completely removed the phone subsidy, so there is no value to taking a phone with a contract, it is always better to just take the contract and to buy a phone for cash elsewhere. That is if you feel that you have to stay with MTN, IMO it is better to move.

yes u right jola, thats the reason why i am moving they will be losing around +- R5000.00 a month from me, no wonder they lost 750 000 subscribers;)

Well it certainly applies to Blackberry contracts. I get a lot more value for my contract than the similarly priced option at Vodacom. Not to mention until about 3 months ago Vodacom's cheapest option was still 50 percent more than MTN's. It really depends on the phone you want and what you need minutes or airtime for. I make use of data, sms, and mms more than minutes so the new MTN contracts work very well for me, I never have to pay extra and I've saved up R900 too.

I'm currently on Procall 120. I normally finish all the free minites in three weeks and the last week I pay in. Not a lot but I always use more then my alocated minutes.
The problem I have with anytime packages is. You get charged almost a flat rate of
R2,00/min for in bundle and out bundle. That means if your free minutes/airtime is finished, there is no off peak rates of R1.00/min. So MTN will nail you if you go over your free minutes at a rate of R2,00/min. Or did I get that wrong?

DON'T GO WITH MTN! My wife and I are both having a nightmare experience with MTN. She has already moved to a vodacom contract on another phone even though she has an MTN contract still because of rediculous overbilling and bad service. I will be moving soon. I have an Anytime 200 (Blackberry Bold) and it is R2.80 out of bundle any time of day. Vodacom pay as you go is as cheap as R1.30 a min at night. MTN has no customer support worth talking about and once they have stolen your money (overbilling) they will not do anything about it. Vodacom is the lesser of 2 evils.

IMO this is all smoke and mirrors.

I have an MTN contract that I have to renew at the moment, and no matter how I do the calculations, I cannot get within 50% of the cost of the previous contract - this is if you factor in the value of the included phone.

These new contracts just don't work for me, there are no additional benefits, just a huge additional cost. If I look at some of the evaluations above, they all leave something out, be it the value of the phone, or something else.

The contract has expired, but for the time being I am continuing with the old minutes-based contract on a month-to-month basis until I decide what to do. But it looks as if a transfer of the phone number to VC is the answer.

I'm not recommending you stay with mtn but my experience is that no matter what phone or package you compare with one from vodacom you always end up paying more at vodacom (specials Excluded). Please share some of your calculations you speak of with us.

Staying with mtn on a month to month basis means you gonna revert to a anytime contract package of a similar amount on a month to month basis. Your previous package has contractually ended and they do not offer those anymore. You can confirm this with a mtn representative if you must.

I've found myself debating the extra cost vs the billing nightmares and other pains at mtn and always ended up paying more at Vodacom as the. cost of my time is worth more than the savings I would have had at mtn.
