Here’s some fun news from Japan today. Gokiraji 2.0 is a robot cockroach (roachbot) that can be controlled using your iPhone and/or iPad.
You download the app to your phone and then link the control app to the roachbot. It can also be controlled using gyro controls. It’s pretty gross, I know, but it’s also a fun toy to have. And of course there could be far more applications in the future knowing how well a phone can now control robots.
We previously told you about Japan’s smartphone-controlled robot dog, but there even more high-tech items out there like Parrot’s AR Drone for example. This cockroach is just a start, of course. Maybe soldiers can start to control robot fighters in the future. Some soldiers already have iPads, so I’m sure many would be delighted to have something to control!
Each cockroach costs about $37 but unfortunately only ships in Japan for now. Catch the video below to see the robot cockroach in action.
