First off I'd like to give a shoutout to Marietjie over at DSTv - I know you don't like us here at MyBB but we like you xoxo

Now, I'm considering taking the plunge and getting DSTV for the first time in my life since I left home. The complex I live in has got a shared dish setup.

Problem is my unit still has the single out wall unit and has to be converted to support the explora or PVR (it needs two connections as far as I know).

My rental agent/landlord says he has a guy that can do it and I just need to buy the decoder and the guy will come over, convert the wall unit and setup everything including some settings I might need for the complex (don't ask me, dunno..frequencies or something).

My question is - can I trust what the rental agent is saying and just go buy the decoder before the conversion or is there a real possibility that the wall unit cannot be converted (iow. is it a big mission involving massive changes to wall wiring etc)? It is an expensive "mistake" to make.

When I lived in my flat an agent came out and saw the single output in the wall, he plugged a signal testing device in it and the HD signal was to low / weak and sold me a SD decoder.

Edit: I asked him to bring both decoders with.

Well my agent said that we can always install our own dish (loft unit). What dies that involve? Drilling two holes through the wall?

I didn't have the own dish option but yes, dish, twin LNB, two cables and explora, done.

Sweet. So in theory since the complex is already setup there must be some LNB cable outside somewhere that needs to be fed through the wall
