Convert TS(HDTV) to WMV - help needed

I want to convert TS or AVI files to WMV so that I can play them via my external USB drive on the XBOX 360. Google shows an array of programs that can do it, but I will much rather rely on the expert knowledge of this forum for advice on which program to use. It does not necessarily have to be freeware.

Not sure on TS, but Windows Movie Maker would be a goto for rendering wmv formats, free.
