Hi,

my parents have boxes and boxes of 35mm slides - and they don't have easy access to their memories.

Where can I have such slides scanned to JPEG in a cost effective manner?

I'm looking for such a service in the Pretoria area.

Thanks

You can get perfect results with a proper slide film scanner but you will probably pay a few grand for that. It might be cheaper to take it to a photo shop and get them to do it. If you do go that route get a sample of your slides scanned to check the quality of the scans.

I bought a canon 4200F scanner 3 years ago, and it has a dedicated film and slide scanner (with proper backlight). We converted about 1500 slides to jpeg, and it was well worth it.

EDIT: Price was about 1K.

It's actually cheaper to buy the slide scanner but it take a helluva lot of time to do the actual scanning & cleanup.

Went down this road before and to have slides scanned if frigging expensive, got quotes from about 10 places. Ideally you want clean then in a ultrasonic bath first and then run them through a chemical process again for restoration to some degree depending on how bad they are before you start scanning.
