Converting Dvd to avi

Trying DVDFab tonight.
Just got it.

Obviously I paid the US$50.00 ............................ *cough*
So, how about those Red Sox, hey?

No it does not support AVI. Only MP4 and Matroska. But I use MP4 and the H.264 codec. Gives beautiful quality in a 700meg file for a standard length movie. Much better than Divx or xVid.

I'm sure it does but it will not be playable on my dvd player or that of other people.

Hi all, I think the big daddy of removing on the fly dvd encryption has got to be AnyDVD http://www.slysoft.com/en/ because all the latest encryption is dealt with before Windoze even knows about it and older programs continue to work flawlessly like DVD Decrypter and DVD Shrink

I normally use dvd shrink to take the dvd to hdd.
Hi Acid0, I have DVD Decrypter and DVD Shrink but it's some years since I used. Any chance you can provide me with a brief refresher course as I have tried ISO and failed. I have done this in the past but lost my Crib Sheet.
A monkey SEE Monkey DO would help me a lot. I am at the back end of 70 and not too clued up. ANY advise you can provide will be greatly appreciated.

You don't really even need DVD Decrypter any more to be honest.
Just use DVD Shrink.

1) Download and Install DVD Shrink
2) Put the DVD into the computer drive and cancel any DVD programs that start up.
3) Start DVD Shrink and point it to the drive, it will begin scanning the disc.
4) When it has finished scanning the disk then click on "Backup Disc"
5) It will ask you what format you want to back up the disc in. Click on the drop down menu and choose ISO format.
6) Then click OK and it will begin copying to your hard drive.

Handbreak works very very well, and it supports H.264...which gives great picture quality. Encoding takes a long time though. Takes me about 4 - 5 hours to encode one dvd on a AMD Sempron 2.6ghz 64 bit linux system.

Handbrake should do the job just fine
