Hi guys

My upgrade is due end June, and I need some help deciding on my next phone... I am currently using a Blackberry Curve 8900, and it's been great - pretty much everything just works and it does everything I need (no 3G though). I'm considering a move to an HTC or Samsung Android phone - thinking about the Galaxy S 2 or maybe the HTC Sensation when they launch.

My question is - has anyone moved from BB to Android, and what's your experience been so far ? Do you wish you'd never changed and miss your BBM already ? or is your Android the best thing ever ?

I would love to hear from all and sundry :)

Thanks
Haz

Can't go wrong with the Galaxy S2. Looking at reviews, it seems like the best phone you can get.
Have a Galaxy S myself, might get the S2

Never used a Blackberry, but I had to help my mom with her Blackberry Curve and teach her how to use it (which meant figuring it out myself). I'm sure you will be glad you left Blackberry behind.

I have a 9300 and the gf has a 8900. I also have a desire. Trust me take the android. The desire is was better than both bb's and the S2 is way better than the desire. Phones higher up in the bb range don't really have much more to offer.

2 questions.

You say you dont have bis, would you pay for bandwidth on your Android. Yes I know an Android device can function without internet but it just becomes more when you give it some, think of it as driving a car in 1st all the time vs all the gears(This is true for all smartphones today).

Seeing that the curve has a dedicated keyboard. Do you like the idea of having physical buttons compared to a on screen keyboard?

I have never owned a BB but played with one and personally moved from a Samsung WM phone to iPhone and now on Android, and I can honestly say I will never look back... ever.

What is you average usage? I'm connected to wifi alot but dont use more than 150mb a month. So what i do is buy the 300mb data package(lasts 2 months,it's R140) This = 150mb a month for R70pm. Feeks unlimited haha I make use of gmail, facbook whatsApp and weather. All app downloads are done via wifi. You also wont miss bbm if u get whatsApp

Android + whatsapp + small data bundle should beat BB hands down if you don't use BIS to the tune of gigabytes per month.

Just download Google Contacts Sync for Blackberry so that all your contacts are sync'ed between your phone and your Gmail account. Then the transition will be perfectly seamless.

I'm on a 100mb per month bundle on my desire. On WiFi at work and home. Usually use a bit more than 100mb.
The bb's battery dies if I leave WiFi on all the time so I just leave it on 3G. Also doesn't seem to have an app that will turn it on and off depending on your location...

Hey, I made the move from my BB Bold 9000 to the SGS. When I just got my Galaxy S I was really disappointed, the phone got so much hype and all of that. The phone came out with android 2.1 Eclair and it was laggy etc. I then decided to root the phone and load Froyo and it has been much better then. O, the first month I added a 500 meg or a 1 Gig bundle, can't remember which and used the SGS as I would use my BB. The browsing was definitely faster on the android, but I went through my cap in just that day that I loaded it. I am also on MTN Anytime 350 and when I checked my balance, I had already used all of the 350 airtime too while browsing. You are going to have to change your habits quite a lot. There is much, much more you can do with your android, but it will also end up costing you much much more. Luckily now I have ADSL and use my SGS with WIFI. But still I don't really have that freedom to just do something if I am away from my WIFI. I also can switch of my data which I do when I am away from a WIFI spot, it also makes my battery last much longer. Oh, on the android I can control my TV, my ps3 and my media server on the PC which makes it worthwhile for me.

Ask yourself this, are you a technical person. Do you want to do more stuff than normal email, phone, camera or browsing? If you just want those things then I would stay with BB as in my opinion the free browsing makes it worth it.

Hope this answers your questions.
