On my desktop I use Win XP with Outlook Express. Recently I bought a notebook with Vista using widows mail(new OE).

Needed to be away from office for a week, so exported Win XP OE to Notebook Windows mail, no problem. All email and folders transferred well.

However, upon returning after the week, I couldnt figure how to transfer my mail back from notebook vista windows mail back to Win xp OE on the desktop. Export only allows to MS Outlook and not OE.

I am small buss owner and dont use local mail servers etc, Mail is popped fm my isp to my OE.

Anyone have any idea what the easiest way is to move y mail and folders back? Right now its a nightmare managing pc & notebook mail simultanously.

'windows live desktop mail' -- even if it is in beta -- use it instead of
the vista oe <windows live mail> -- import both accounts into it. :p

Hi Gerhard,

Windows Mail stores messages as standard EML files. If you open the Store folder for Windows Mail, each Folder in Windows Mail is a folder on disk, containing all the messages for that folder. You can drag and drop the messages into Outlook Express.

This isn't generally an ideal long term solution. If you want the same mail at two places then I suggest using the "leave a copy of messages on the server" in your mail client, and setting it to delete the mail after 72 hours (or whatever suits you). That was both mail client collect a copy of the mail, and after 72 hours (enough time to ensure both clients have collected it) the mail is deleted.

You could also set up a local Email Server to collect your mail and create a copy in as many mailboxes as you like. CapeSoft Email Server is a good choice if you don't mind spending the $39 for a server that is seriously easy to set up (www.capesoft.com). It also rocks if you use a LAN and need to send mail around the LAN, or want to host all mail for a domain etc.
