Cooking Oil & Food stuff

Has anybody noticed what the price of Cooking oil is lately ? It used to be like ZAR 19.?? - ZAR 23.?? per 2 litre.

Currently (JHB) it's going for ZAR 37.?? per 2 litre Got a "special" price today ZAR 38.95 per 2 litre !!

What is going on ? It's made out of Sunflower - not related to the current $100 US per barrel !!!

Anybody got any ideas ?

I use Canola oil.

R49 / 2 litre.

Blossom margarine R 27 a tub! WTF?

These people are crazy.

I know farmers are using sunflower oil instead of diesel in their tractors.
Must be a shortage then.

I can respect that. No problem. But ............... why all of a sudden ....... like in about a month's time the price has dubbled

I mean to ask, power cuts, rainy wheather, etc - something has to have some sort of influence on who ever regulates the price ?

Another examle - Melrose chees spread - any flavour, used to be like ZAR 21.?? up tp ZAR 23.?? per 420gram. Right ?

Well same big name retailer sell's it on a "special" nogal, for ZAR 31.95 !!

What justifies the increase ?

That's why you see such a big hike in prices.

I think you are completely wrong and uniformed about the farmers, they get the smallest share of the price as they cannot determine their prices. They have to take what markets offer them and the same goes for milk prices, the distributors make the killing not the farmers.
Why belittle farmers like that, are you may bee a world known mathematician?

I'm not belittling them. Half my family are farmers. I'm almost a semi farm-boy myself.

Not true at all. Farmers have no say when it comes to the prices of products they sell. Prices are dictated to them by the buying companies which they can take or leave.

There is a shortage of sunflower oil.
Farmers do not sell their sunflower seed.
The price per ton is almost R 5000 / ton.

Farmers manufacture their own oil,for their own use, in their tractors ,as they simply cannot afford the higher fuel price.

Cooking oil works fine as a fuel inside a tractor engine!
