Good day all,

I need help deciding on which glass to go with for my house renovations. The architect specified low e laminated glass of 6.38 mm thickness. The space was intended to feel open and warm in winter or cool in summer. The extension would have had full glass windows and doors for a floor area of about 15 m2 but l changed this to have a feature wall with two side glasses on each side of the wall on the long side side due to the high costs of sliding doors.

I spoke to the glass supplier and he was suggesting l use a cool bronze laminate glsss with the same thickness. I am confused on which option to go for.

My understanding is that low e glass helps with control but comes only in a clear glass where as the cool bronze comes with some colour to minimise visibility from the outside.

Should l go for low e or cool bronze. Does cool bronze have same or close to heat control. Can low e glass be tinted a little to offer some screening.

As a complete glass n00b I'd ask two or three glass experts and go with the majority view.

Low e glass was probably specified to meet the energy requirements for council approval. Check with your architect before making any changes.

I had low-e clear glass fitted. Cuts out heat and noise transfer equally.

dont forget something like skylights for lighting in addition to the windows etc
