Cool Ideas DDoS

Funny part is they were approach by DDoS mitigation companies before all this started happening and CI turned them down.

So which DDoS mitigation company do you work for to know such inside commercial information?

CI claims that their DDOS attack is over. The smtp servers mailfw1.cisp.co.za and mailfw2.cisp.co.za are non-functional. (Smtp): Error, Message 1 message failed to send Timeout error occurred.
Occasional mails go through but are them repeated randomly.
Getting tickets responded to is nearly impossible, call centre promises callbacks which never happen.

Sorry to hear that, will investigate.

What is the reason to use a relay on the first place?

This is not a relay. As Cool Ideas is my ISP, I need an smtp server to send mail from my mail client to the wider internet mail. This was discussed in detail with the technical staff at Cool Ideas' office face to face at the time I was evaluating Cool Ideas as my ISP. It has worked correctly since the 20th August 2018 until the fairly recent past when the DDOS attacks started. The Cool Ideas call centre staff appear not to understand the situation and actively prevent any form of escalation to senior technical staff or management. If someone responsible within Cool Ideas will take the trouble to review the many tickets which have been submitted, there might be a correction to the situation.

Your mailhost should provide you with relay capability, this is the industry norm which is why I am asking?

I use Telkom (I know this is not ideal) I had this discussion with Cool Ideas technical. They agreed that the Cool Ideas SMTP server suited my purposes best and provided the documentation for setup. If you have a better solution, I would be eager to use it. Please send me the setup details. (BTW, for mobile mail, I use the Vodacom SMTP server which works without incident)

Yeah so if you use Telkoms mailserver with authentication it's basically a black hole, this is why we setup the service basically for servers using Telkom email addresses. We get zero response from Telkom around fixing their relay.

Are our relays still not working for you?

Still timeouts on either SMTP address. Test messages to myself get delivered again and again.
Problem exists using two different mail clients (each on a different laptop)

I got a response after many many complaints... they blamed Mimecast :-)

Thanks to Cool Ideas for resolving the issues I have seen with the SMTP server since the DDOS attacks started.
