Cool Ideas Fibre ISP – Feedback Thread 6

Yeap sure thing, it was just a temp trial thing but obviously it seems to work ok. We may look at another host there as well.

Ah ok, so far I have only found it to be beneficial with google cloud, but no worries, I can use the UK VPN as well, its not as good as the Madrid one in my case, but good enough as I can still get past the JHB hairpin :)

I was thinking of getting myself an OVH box in Spain again, but I see they are currently out of stock.

Nah I should be able to get it going again, just saying why it isnt monitored etc.

Anyone here play Marvel Rivals? A game with no SA servers(no surprise) but the latencies are so weird. It seems to be routing through the Eastern part of SA rather than Cape Town.

Anyway to avoid this? The VPNs in the past never helped. Like Cape Town going through the East part of SA first then to Europe and NA can be brutal… even the Middle East server isn’t optimal there.

I’m guessing they’re google cloud hosted? I haven’t found the hostnames or IPs of the servers yet.

Hi, All of our international traffic is via Cape Town <> Equiano <> Lisbon onwards. Obviously aside from our Paratus traffic from JHB.

But basically if its taking an eastern route it is via a local peer or company that does that.

The VPNs should bypass that.

So using the test acc, the YT videos still buffers and doesn't reach its line rated speed. Its either openserve line unlikely, ISP vender capacity throttle. Same thing happening with Afrihost.

Not sure who to blame.
@PBCool Is this might be congestion related, or if no throttling or shaping by ISP

Pop me the link to the video? We dont really have the ability to manage YT performance purely because Google does all of that. Is possible the video doesnt cache and Google has transit constraints.

Or there is packet loss on the line, potential thing to do is use our proxy server and see if it improves. Or dial our VPN to UK and try.

using 8K video playback setting.

And you are using the ISPs DNS settings?
Yes.

Testing another 8k video does the same thing. Not reaching its rated line speed.
Next will try proxy but I doubt it will do any good.
VPN will add more latency.

Also what device is it? What does an international speedtest look like on AH vs us?

I would guess it's your TCP window settings or packet loss somewhere.

I tested that link you sent me on laptop @ 8k and it was stuttering, on my desktop cabled in 8k was fine.

Saw bursts of 70Mbps for the stream, is your device cabled in?

Often even if you get >70Mbps on your wireless the ramp up of the throughput can take time.

Also it was being served by our cluster in JHB.

Testing on desktop. both speedtests to intl are identical tho AH dl ramps up slower.

4K does the same.

Tested on Lan and wifi aswell no difference.

Doesn't look like is related to google cache either.
